MY LAST DAY OF NEW YORK MARKET HAS ARRIVED! I AM SO EXCITED TO WRAP THINGS UP IN NYC AND FOCUS ON PARIS MARKET IN MARCH. BUT FIRST THINGS FIRST-I NEED TO GO VISIT HIEDI MERRICK AND SYDNEY SHOWROOM! SO I HEAD DOWN TO SOHO AND STOP AT THE GREAT JONES GALLERY WHERE BOTH SHOWROOMS ARE DISPLAYING THEIR COLLECTIONS.

HEIDI MERRICK, AN L.A. BASED DESIGNER, IS HEAVY ON COLOR, AND SUBTLE ON DETAIL. SHE USES BOLD PALLETTES (MOSTLY IN SOLID COLORS) TO MAKE A STATEMENT, AND BRING WHIMSY TO A DESIGN THAT MIGHT OTHERWISE BE REFERRED TO AS CLASSIC WITH AN EDGE.

I’M NOT A HUGE FAN OF THE PUSSY BOW TREND, BUT HEIDI SEEMED TO FIND A WAY TO MAKE THIS STYLE ELEMENT SEEM FUN, YOUNG, FLATTERING AN NOT STUFFY OR PRUDISH. THESE 3 STYLES ARE ALL DIFFERENT TAKES ON THE TREND- NOTICE HOW WEARABLE THEY ARE, AND HOW COOL YOU’LL LOOK AND FEEL WHEN YOU’RE SPORTING ONE NEXT FALL!

I STARTED THE DAY OFF IN THE GARMENT DISTRICT WITH CUT 25. CYNTHIA, MY REP, REALLY WANTED TO MAKE SURE I NOTICED ALL OF THE HIDDEN DETAILS THROUGHOUT THE LINE. IT WAS BOTH EXCITING AND TOUGH TO GO THROUGH ALL OF THE COLLECTIONS, BUT IN THE END I NARROWED IT DOWN AND BOUGHT FROM MY FAVORITES- DANIEL ESPINOSA, MELANIE AULD DESIGNS, MEGHNA DESIGNS AND NEHA JOYAS.

YOU MAY HAVE SEEN ME WEARING THIS PIECE FROM DANIEL ESPINOSA. THE DESIGNER SENT IT AS A GIFT OVER THE HOLIDAYS. EVERY TIME I WEAR IT I GET SO MANY COMPLIMENTS I HAD TO PICK IT UP FOR THE STORE.

I REALLY LOVED THESE CUTE PIECES FROM MELANIE AULD DESIGNS. THEY ARE SYMBOLS OF GOOD LUCK, LOOK GREAT LAYERED TOGETHER, AND HAVE AN AMAZING PRICE POINT.

I CAN’T BELIEVE I WENT ALL THE WAY TO NYC TO PICK UP A LINE BY A NATIVE CHICAGOAN… BUT I WAS REALLY TAKEN BY THE COLLECTION FOR MEGHNA DESIGNS. EVERYTHING, LITERALLY EVERYTHING, WAS GORGEOUS. SHE REALLY KNOWS HOW TO COMBINE AN ETHNIC AESTHETIC WITH ART DECO DETAILING.

MY DAY WRAPPED UP WITH A DELICIOUS MEAL AT INDOCHINE. EVEN BETTER WAS THE COMPANY. IF YOU HAVE EVER BEEN TO LE COLONIAL IN CHICAGO, THIS IS NYC’S TASTIER, AND MUCH MORE SCENEY VERSION. TODAY WAS A GREAT DAY FOR COLOR. EVERYTHING I SAW TODAY RESONATED A THEME OF INTENSE HUES FOR FALL. ONE THING I LOVED MOST WAS THAT I GOT TO EXPERIENCE MALACHITE IN TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FORMS- IN IT’S NATURAL STATE, AS JEWELRY AT GEMMA REDUX, AND ALSO AS AN ETHEREAL PRINT AT NIEVES LAVI.

MY DAY STARTED OFF AT GEMMA REDUX. I’VE BEEN A FAN OF HER DESIGNS FOR YEARS, AND AM SUPER EXCITED TO BE CARRYING THEM AT SARCA NOW. THE COLLECTION IS COMPRISED OF NATURAL ELEMENTS, CONSTRUCTED IN A MANNER THAT ALLOWS THEM TO MAKE A LUXURIOUS AN ELEGANT STATEMENT. HERE ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITES:

Every woman whether married or dating needs that "perfect" outfit for date night. This week I am sharing two of my favorite looks that are sure to take your night on the town to the next level. What makes these outfits even more functional, is the fact that they are seasonless, and all of the accessories can transition from day to night.

The first look is a bit more "glam" with the statement necklace and authentic zebra hide clutch. I love pairing a bold red lip with a jewel toned dress, and a statement necklace. Pull your hair into a pony tail, don't wear earrings, and I promise the look won't be overdone. Rest assured all eyes will be on you (especially your date)!

For the second option, I am suggesting something that works well for those who need something to take their look from "career" to "comfortably romantic". Most successful fashion designers struggle for years before receiving that kind of recognition. But ordinary is not in the vocabulary of this Brooklyn based artist, Samantha Sleeper. It is clear that the Parson’s School of Design graduate has a very relevant, but unique viewpoint, which comes across through her innovative use of fabrics, body-conscious silhouettes and strong vision. Anatsui is a Ghanian based contemporary artist whose work reflects complex modern challenges – overconsumption and consumerism, recycling, Africa’s post-colonial struggle, and the relationship of African cultures and traditions to the Western world. His work has been attributed as an inspiration to major fashion houses like Gucci and Missoni. El Anatsui's practice of meticulously binding together found objects in many ways reflects Gabriella Cortese's technique of stitching handmade embroidery at Antik Batik. Just as there are thousands of ways of bending, twisting and assembling discarded bottle caps, there are also thousands of ways of embroidering sequins.

While plotting out my detailed day-by-day Basel calendar to make sure I hit all of the important booths and emerging fairs, I noticed a trend in my current taste for contemporary art - the modern day take on Old Masters. Some of my favorite contemporary artists that best exhibit this trend in their work are Amanda Clyne, Hooper Turner and Julie Heffernan. Exquisite craftsmanship and a traditional aesthetic in a painting will never go out of style, making this genre of art much more than a trend.
